MILLION DOLLAR PASSWORD

I love game shows. I like the ones you can play along, but I also just love to watch and be entertained. For years, I've watched all sorts of games shows. The older ones, What's My Line and the Match Game. I remember watching Price Is Right with my grandmother on her rabbit ears television set.

And along the way, some great shows have come and gone. Hollywood Squares and The Ten Thousand Dollar Pyramid along with the Dating Game and the Newlywed game.

Now, Password has been resurrected once again. And I couldn't be happier. Though it's a Million Dollar version nowadays, which seems to be the eye-catcher. What's a game show, unless they give away a Million, right? Just last night Drew Carey gave away one million to a contestant on the Price Is Right, where poor old Howie Mandel, can't give away a million on Deal or No Deal to save his life. It's just not happening!

I watched the new Password with Regis Philbin the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Regis is a wonderful game host. It helps to have savvy contestants and smart celebrities. Rachel Ray is one of my favorites, and Dougey Houser, has all grown up! He was great with his contestant. Did they give away a million? No? And I fear the road to one million is hard to achieve. They don't make it easy!

How many of you remember the original password with Allen Ludden? It was shown in the 60's I beleive. It's a game that never dies. In 1979 it was resurrected at Password Plus and in 1989 again as, Super Password. It's a game show with sticking power!

Password has had some of the biggest names in show business. Here is Betty White - Allen Ludden's wife, btw. She was an original and since has done countless other game shows. Do you remember her?

Juno ... the Movie

Was it ever explained why her parents named her Juno? I don't know, but I do remember her father calling her June Bug. That's cute.

It's a good thing we didn't rent this movie. There are rentals and then there are borrowed movies. We borrowed this movie from our son. I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, but I guess my expectations were very high. The actress played by Ellen Page got rave reviews and was nominated for an Academy Award. I expected Meryl Streep I guess.

Word of mouth is priceless and I heard nothing but great things about the movie. My daughter loved it. My friend loved it. Many people I know saw it on the big screen when the movie first came out and loved it.

The movie was different, unique in ways I can't describe, but it did remind me of the humor of The Office - another show that the critics and millions of people adore ... that I don't "get". I've tried. Oh, how I've tried. I want to fit in and say, "Yeah, I love The Office ... it's sooo funny." But I can't. I don't find it entertaining.




Getting back to Juno. I'll watch and enjoy a variety of movies because as a writer, I'm always learning. I study people. I study characters. To find their motivation. To see how they tick. So, in that regard I liked Juno. There were some funny moments. The writing was very good. I learned something from watching it and that's always a positive.




Juno was nominated as Best Picture along with 3 other Oscar noms and has been labeled, "A fresh, unusually intelligent comedy."

So there it is. I should have liked it more. I should have loved it!

But did I love Juno? No. Not even close. Like I said, it was engaging. I was mildly entertained. I observed and learned a little. But, I didn't "get" it. Aside from great acting on young Ellen Page's part, it was okay. Not my cup of tea, as they say. Maybe it was the mood I was in, but I don't really think so.

So, what about you? Have you ever expected to enjoy a movie or a book because your expectations were so high, only to be disappointed. What didn't you "get" that others did?

Covers, Covers and More Covers!

When I wrote the Suite Secrets Series for Desire, I envisioned what my hero characters would look like. Trent Tyler in Five-tar Cowboy is more rugged than most of the wealthy tycoons you might expect. He has a deep love of the land, respects animals and loves winning. He's tall, dark and handsome, but he's also clever and smart as a whip. I searched and searched until I found a man that would fit the bill.

What do you think? Pretty handsome and rugged and a millionaire to boot! In my mind, maybe Trent had a less cleanly shaven face with some scruffiness on his very sharp features.

But the cover gods, had a different Trent Tyler in mind. They chose to show his millionaire status and I'm not disappointed. I like a man who wears a tux and a Stetson so well.

It just goes to show that the author's concept and the artist's concept of the character can be miles apart. I've been happy with my covers thus far, so no complaints out of me. I do a 6 page Art Fact Sheet explaining the story, concepts, theme and finally physical characteristics of my main characters.

Okay, so I have lofty aspirations for my covers, but these guys do fit the character so well. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the cover gods have in mind!

I love Idol ... I admit it!

There isn't anything I don't like about the final ten weeks of American Idol. It's pure and simple entertainment. It's Star Search and Ed Sullivan all wrapped up and tied with a pretty bow.



Last night I was in Idol Heaven. I sat with my eyes glued to the set, much to my company's groans. (My kids 25 and 30 are NOT fans) After dinner, I made the announcement. Didn't matter that the Laker play-off game was on, we were going to sit down with cake batter, expresso and peanut butter flavored frozen yogurt and watch the entire show! My bribe worked, but the comments I endured would be considered cruel and unusual punishment by most civilized countries.










Despite their claims to "cheesy singing acts by the top ten", "bad staging", trying to figure out if the Guru was really in the scene with David and David, and Ryan being a Dork - all sacrilege to me, my family sat with me and watched the two hours while I relished every second!



I loved Carrie Underwood's performance. I'm an avid country music fan!

I loved Gladys Knights and her New Pips - Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. It was a real hoot!!


I loved it when Ryan almost fell off the Guru carpet ride!

I liked seeing the judges dressed up, smiling and nice to everyone! Simon even made an apology of sorts to Cook.

Even though I was an Archuleta fan, I thought the votes came in as they should have. David Cook, a little more mature, a little more entertaining and a teensy bit more talented, deserved the Idol Crown.

All in all, a great season of Idols.


I won't be there in January to watch the lunatics try to impress the judges. I know those first few weeks are popular, but watching them reminds me how many delusional people live in this world. But when the wannabes come to Hollywood, I'm so there!

May Happenings!

I'd like to thank everyone who stopped by our week-long blog at Romance Vagabonds with Harlequin Mills and Boon. We shared lots of information, had some fun contests and Q and A with Senior Editor, Linda Fildew and Joanne Carr. Our Western Day was headed up by Lisa Plumley, Kathryn Albright and Charlene Sands (me).

A Good Cause from the AHA

This story touched me. As you might know I'm a member of the American Heart Association and teach CPR at local hospitals. The Amercian Heart Association and its donations have helped so many children.

CREATE HOPE for millions of Americans like Caroline!
When our daughter, Caroline, was born on February 9, 2006, we were so excited to welcome her to our lives. Our excitement was quickly overwhelmed with fear when we learned that Caroline was born with a hole in her heart. At five days old she had surgery to repair that hole in her heart.

The surgery was a great success and by mid-April, Caroline was home and healthy. She is now a strong and determined little girl. Hope is a reality for us and it wouldn't have been possible without the life-saving research advances funded by the American Heart Association.
Living through the experience of our newborn child's heart condition discovery, surgery and recovery showed us that we are truly blessed. Her experience creates hope for thousands of other parents of children born with congenital heart defects.

When I'm pooped and a little burned out from writing, reading, researching and promoting, these are the television shows that entertain me. These are the shows I watch when I need to vegge out. These are the shows that I DVR when I'm not home.

1. Lost ( I don't miss an episode and haven't since the beginning)

2. American Idol ( I will admit to fast forwarding thru Paula's comments at times)

3. The Biggest Loser ( I like Alison Sweeney from Days and tuned in just to see her, but wound up being a big fan of the show. Very informative health tips and work outs. I'm learning a lot. I do love the weigh-ins.)

4. Celebrity Apprentice ( I'm not a Donald fan, but like the show, mainly because of Trace Atkins and the others who have diverse dynamics)

5. Desperate Housewives ( A fan from inception and miss it terribly)

6. Men In Trees ( There's something about that show, great characters)

7. One Tree Hill (family ties here and a very good show)

8. Numbers ( very underrated show, great characters and plots)

9. Deal or No Deal ( I like game shows and Howie makes me laugh)

10. Martha Stewart ( love cooking and craft shows )

KEEPING HEALTHY - DISPELLING MYTHS

Everyone is very health conscious these days but often we don't know what to believe. What's true and what's not true?

Here's a list of the Top Health Myths that might help us all decide.

Myth 1: Potatoes and bread are fattening.

Actually: It's just the opposite. Starchy vegetables and bread (whole-grain bread, that is) are quality carbs needed to fuel every part of you, from your brain to your muscles. Where you can get into trouble is how you eat them: Smear butter on a slice of whole wheat bread or deep-fry potatoes and you can double, triple, or quadruple their calories.

Myth 2: Drinking a glass of water before a meal curbs appetite.

Actually: Yes and no. Water tames appetite if it's incorporated into food, such as soup or a thick drink (think V8 juice). Apparently, when water is bound to food, digestion is slower, explains Elizabeth Somer, RD, author of 10 Habits That Mess Up a Woman's Diet. That's why in one study women found chicken-rice soup more satisfying than chicken-rice casserole and a glass of water--even though the soup had 27% fewer calories! One exception to this rule: Because it's easy to confuse hunger and thirst, if you find yourself craving something--but what?--drink a big glass of water and wait a few minutes. You may find that's what you really wanted.

Myth 3: Shellfish is high in cholesterol.

Actually: On one hand it's true, just three ounces of shrimp deliver more than a third of your daily cholesterol, but there's a surprising flip side to this story: Shrimp are low in saturated fat--the kind that becomes artery-clogging bad cholesterol--and they have a smidgeon of heart-healthy omega-3s. In fact, University of Southern California researchers discovered eating shellfish, such as shrimp, every week reduced heart attack risk by 59%!

Myth 4: The occasional burger and fries won't kill you.

Actually: If "occasional" means every Friday night, then no. But if it means every few months, and you're fit, and you've got good "numbers" (weight, waist size, cholesterol, blood pressure) AND you're chowing down on vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and other nutritious fare most other days, hey, you'll live. But few of us are that perfect. If you do occasionally indulge? Offset the effects of a fat fiesta with a brisk, 90-minute walk afterward.

Myth 5: Women naturally gain weight after menopause.

Actually: While you can blame a lot of things on hormones (from acne to PMS), in this case slowing down physically is far more likely at fault. Study after study has found that older women who exercise regularly and vigorously maintain their girlish figures. What about those charts that say as you get older, you need to eat fewer calories to simply maintain your weight? Same story. The research doesn't show that age (instead of inactivity) accounts for the drop.

Myth 6: Diet soda is worse than the real thing.
Actually: Soft drinks now outrank coffee as America's favorite beverage, but we all would be better off switching to water, diluted juice, and green tea than drinking either diet or regular soda. Both increase kidney and heart disease risk, plus they contain acids that erode tooth enamel, inviting cavities.

Final fact (this one's no myth): Maintaining your weight and body mass index at a desirable level can make your RealAge as much as 6 years younger.

chance to choose their mate on leap day. Once every four years, it was considered appropriate for a woman to issue a marriage proposal on February 29th.

American Idle - The girls stalled the show last night.

American Idol- Yes, I do know how to really spell it!

Last week I thought the girls outshined the boys in overall talent. But this week, two performances stood out and they were male vocalists.

I'm calling them the Dueling Davids.

David Hernandez wowed me. I really like his tone and style. I think he's got natural talent that isn't forced. Simon thought he was better than he'd expected, high praise coming from the Kritic King.

But I do agree with Simon, this week the one that topped the charts -- I mean really outsung every one of the contestants, was David Archuleta.

He sang John Lennon's Imagine, and gave me goose bumps! This 17 year old has a truly honest, pure and natural voice that comes across nearly flawlessly. There's a difference between singing the music and feeling the music. David feels the music.

Both Davids site Stevie Wonder as their inspiration.

Simon has it right this time. David Archuleta is the one to beat.

Who's going tonight is anyone's guess.

Wishing you all a very Happy Valentine's Day, the most romantic day of the year! This morning I woke up to find a lovely note from my husband along with handcut roses from our garden placed in a pretty glass bowl, the rose tops floating on water. It was a lovely surprise and his note, just about made my heart flutter.

It's the little things in life that matter most. It's the love and consideration and kindness we share with our loved ones that make the world go around.

Making Pancakes

Six-year-old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. He found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter,opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour canister, spilling iton the floor.He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in mostof a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a flour trail on the floorwhich by now had a few tracks left by the kitten.

Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He wanted this to be something very good for Mom and Dad, but it was getting very bad.He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all into the oven or on the stove and he didn't know how the stove worked! Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor. Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas whiteand sticky.And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile tears welled up in Brandon 's eyes .

All he'd wanted to do was something good, but he'd made a terrible mess. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking, but his father just watched him.Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him, getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process!That's how God deals with us. We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend, or we can't stand our job, or our health goes sour.

Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do. That's when God picks us up and loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets all over Him.But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to "make pancakes" for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll be glad we tried...I was thinking and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that need rekindling or three words needing to be said.Sometimes, "I love you" can heal & bless!

Remind every one of your friends that you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back, you would be amazed at what those three little words, a smile, and a reminder like this can do. Just in case I haven't told you lately... I LOVE YA!!! Please pass some of this love on to others. Suppose one morning you were called to God; do all your friends know you love them?
